About Us

The Savoy Arts Company has been producing shows since 1985, specialising in the operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan. We have provided excellent training in all aspects of stagecraft for performers who have made a career in opera and musical theatre. The Ensemble style of our productions not only provides the chorus with experience in singing with an orchestra, but also provides ample opportunity to learn and develop skills in characterisation and stagecraft.

The Southern Highlands. Every year we open our production season with a visit to the Southern Highlands and perform to packed houses in the Bundanoon Soldiers’ Memorial Hall. Our weekend at Bundanoon is one of the highlights of our production year and has become a tradition.

The Montgomery Pavilion Theatre, RSL Retirement Village, Collaroy Plateau regularly invites us to perform in their theatre. The cast and orchestra find this a valuable preparation for our main season at the Zenith Theatre. Our productions have been very well received and we are delighted to join with the personnel at the Retirement Village in a mutually beneficial fund raising venture.

The Zenith Theatre. We have been performing at the Zenith Theatre, Chatswood, since its opening. This venue has proved to be very popular with our patrons due to the comfortable seating, professional atmosphere and ease of parking. During our time at the Zenith we have trained students in stage management, introduced them to the techniques of theatre lighting and provided work experience opportunities for year 10 students.

The Savoy Arts Company is a small community theatre company with a management committee of eight people. We receive no direct financial assistance by way of government grants and only limited sponsorship, so the money required to take a show to three different venues comes primarily from ticket sales, performance fees and fund raising ventures such as an annual concert, fund raising concerts in association with other organisations and charities, raffles, chocolates sales, etc. The company acknowledges its appreciation of invaluable assistance from Willoughby City Council under its community theatre support program and Bundanoon Hotel, our longstanding sponsor in the Southern Highlands.

We usually perform with an 18-piece orchestra, which suits the two Sydney venues we frequent. Although performing at different venues is challenging for the whole production team, it adds to the overall enjoyment, making the rehearsal period well worth the time and effort.
